You may not know it, but Birmingham has a pretty great brewery scene. Here are a few places we'd recommend to grab a beer and hangout with friends during the day.
Right across from historic Sloss Furnaces, Back Forty has a wide selection of craft beer brewed on-site. We'd recommend ordering the BamaMosa (and at 7% ABV you may want to go ahead and try the Back 40 Cheeseburger while you're at it).

For those who don't *love* beer, Avondale Brewery offers a full bar with craft cocktails (helloooo, margaritas) and features a nice outdoor setup. If you're feeling adventurous, check out their Sour Room - which serves, you guessed it, sour beers. While Avondale doesn't have an in-house kitchen, you can walk next door to Saw's BBQ, or across the street to Latin cantina, Luna, for a quick bite.

Yet another brewery that caters to both beer and cocktail drinkers, Ghost Train is a good option if you don't know exactly what you want. If you stop here for a drink, we'd suggest trying the Kaleidoscope Kettle Sour.

This list wouldn't be complete without mentioning Good People. Arguably one of the most recognizable beers in Alabama, their IPA has been #1 in the state for the last 10 years. Our favorite GP beer is the Muchacho.

If brewery hopping isn't your thing and you're looking for something to do, consider a short trip to Barber Motorsports Park. Located about 20 minutes from downtown Birmingham, the Barber Motorsports Museum houses the largest collection of motorcycles in the world.
